A staple of every major holiday in house, this pie recipe was passed down to me by my great grand mother.

There’s a lot of tales surrounding this pie (most everyone has a version). What my great grandmother told me was this; this was a pie was made during the Great Depression.

A lot of people could not afford apples. So, they turned to the cheap & hardy little “ritz cracker” to fill up their their pie dishes.

🛒What you’ll need🛒

  • 24 ritz crackers, crushed

  • 1/2 cup pecan pieces

  • 3 eggs whites (medium stiff)

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla

🍴How to make it🍴

Pre heat oven to 300F. Crush up ritz crackers in a gallon baggy. Then beat 3 egg whites & baking powder in a bowl until medium peaks form. Then gradually whip in sugar & then vanilla. Then fold in crushed ritz crackers & pecan pieces. Pour mixture into a freezer pie dish. Bake for 25 mins. Let cool. Then top with homemade whipped cream (directions in notes).

📝Notes 📝

  • keeps for 3 days in the fridge

  • to make homemade whipped cream: combine some heavy whipping cream (about 2 cups) & sugar (1/2 to 1 cup, based on your preference) and whip until fluffy
